Borrowing Privileges Here and Elsewhere

Privileges for Students

Whatcom students, faculty & staff need a current WCC ID card to borrow library materials. Cards can be obtained at Syre Student Center during regular business hours. You can add cash to your card on one of the library's two copy machines.

The loan period for books is two weeks, and for audio CDs and video DVDs, three days. More detailed information is found in policies under About Us.

Inter Library Loan (ILL)
Our library can order materials for you from other libraries participating in ILL if there is a particular item you need. There is a lead-time of several days or longer. Loan terms vary and late fees can be considerable.

Privileges for Members of the Community
Members of the community who want borrowing privileges should inquire at the Circulation Desk.

Catalogs for the below-listed local libraries (and others) are on the Finding Materials page (under Resources).

Western Washington University (WWU)
Whatcom students may borrow materials from WWU with a valid WCC ID. Their loan periods may vary by material type, but the most common is 3 weeks.

Bellingham Public Library / Whatcom County Library System
Students that have a library card with either the Bellingham Public Library or Whatcom County Library System can access some of the public libraries' electronic resources remotely, and we link to them from the Article & Research Database link on our Resources menu.

Whatcom Community College Library and the public libraries now collaborate to better serve the library needs of the community and of our students.

Patrons are able to designate the Whatcom Community College as a location where they can pick up the holds they have placed on public library materials. Holds will be available for pickup during the hours the campus library is open.

In addition, people can drop off returned public library materials at book drops on the college campus. The drive-up book drop is located in the campus parking lot and is available 24 hours a day. When the campus library is open, materials may also be dropped off inside the building, either in the entry or inside the library.

The goals of this partnership are threefold: to provide more convenient access to public library materials for community members on the north side; to develop an ongoing joint partnership between the academic and public libraries in the community; and, to provide a joint service that will support community energy savings.
